Hope (Adult Hope Scale)

Snyder's Hope Scale (Adult Hope Scale) measures hope not as "I believe everything will be fine," but as a cognitive process with two parts: agency (goal energy — "I can move toward my goals") and pathways (the ability to find options — "I can see how to get there"). Hope in Snyder's sense is not a mood but a skill: the capacity both to want to move and to see routes. It can be developed.

Before you start
This assesses your habitual configuration of hope, not your "level of optimism." Hope here is not a feeling but a two-part process: the energy to move and the ability to see pathways. A low score doesn't mean "you're hopeless" — it points to which of the two parts is sagging right now.
