Emotion and CBT journal

Explore one specific episode and gently trace how facts, thoughts, feelings, and actions connect.

The STEB journal (Situation → Thoughts → Emotions → Behaviour) is a core CBT tool that helps reveal the connection between an event, its interpretation, and your behaviour. By recording these four elements, you begin to understand that strong emotions arise not from the situation itself, but from automatic thoughts about it. This makes it possible to identify cognitive distortions, check thoughts against reality, and replace them with more balanced ones. As a result, emotional intensity decreases and you can choose a more helpful response instead of reacting automatically. Keeping the journal regularly develops mindful awareness and gradually changes habitual patterns of thinking.
