Breathing practices
Six protocols — from box breathing to Nadi Shodhana. Breath is the fastest channel to the nervous system.
Breathing is the only autonomic function we can control consciously, and the fastest route to the nervous system. Inhaling activates the sympathetic system — tone, readiness; exhaling activates the parasympathetic system via the vagus nerve — calming and recovery. Hence the simple principle: lengthen the exhale — calm down. Different protocols solve different tasks. Box and coherent breathing restore steady breath during anxiety and a racing heart. 4-7-8 and the extended exhale help you fall asleep when thoughts won't stop. The physiological sigh knocks down acute stress in half a minute — say, before an important conversation. Nadi Shodhana balances and gathers you. Pick a protocol, sit upright, relax your shoulders and follow the orb: expanding — inhale, shrinking — exhale, still — hold. Breathe through the nose if comfortable; through the mouth only if your nose is blocked.
Even, composed breathing with holds — gathers attention and calms. Good before a task that needs clarity.
